Some comments on All Weather Horse Racing in the UK

From my experience many punters seem to despise all weather racing because they cannot win at it. The biggest mistake many punters and experts seem to make is that they try to mix turf form and all weather form. The reality of the matter is that the two do not mix. The other problem is that All Weather Form doesn't always carry too well from course to course. The advantage of this is that punters that can spot a good all weather horse, trainer or jockey that does well at a particular course can clean up in this game.

During the autumn, turf form really throws punters and bookies off the scent. A string of unplaced turf runs is all that the punter will see in a horse's recent form. Yet a year ago the horses all weather form could be outstanding. The poor turf form is camouflaging the true ability of the horse.

In the winter, when all weather form settles down, there are many days when national hunt meetings are abandoned. Every punter throughout the country who has a wedge of cash burning a hole in their pocket will bet on anything to satisfy their need. On these days a true odds on shot can be 5-1 against because of the weight of 'novice' money bet on a top jockey or trainer, or a horse that won 5 turf races during the year. It is days like this that we can really take advantage and grab the value prices with both hands.

In the spring all weather horses are race fit and ready to win. And remember, as turf and sand do not mix, horses true turf ability can be camouflaged by many unplaced all weather runs - just as in the autumn therefore these fit animals can beat their more superior turf cousins with us again taking advantage.
